1. Are the AT&T ads about its association with the Great Depression and its "share your story" link designed to boost its company image, or is it trying to genuinely be there for people in their time of economic need?
2. Is AT&T taking advantage of consumers economic disparity with this ad campaign, or it is simply tapping into the feel of the nation?
3. Is this an example of targeted advertising, or simply smart strategy? Why or why not?
1. AT&T as well as other companies are always trying to put their company in good light in all situation. In the article, it did say it has provided high tech jobs for people without jobs to give them a chance at living life again. however, they are vague on which job's they have provided and how many people have received such jobs. If it is just tech jobs they are segmenting who they want to offer a job position to. overall, its to boost its image. they are not the only ones doing this. allstate is already in the "game" of boosting their image with their link to the great depression as well.
ReplyDelete2. this ad is a mixture of both the feelings of the nation and taking advantage of the consumers economic disparity. they are both tied into one another because one affects the other. their advertising is obviously correlating to how people feel in this time of struggle and sadness. besides giving people a sensitive advertising in which they can relate to, what have they really done? open a job segmented towards only a selective group of people? going "green". if they really want to provide a change, they should lower their bills on the phones people have with them. money is what it boils down to.
1. The ad is clearly to boost AT&T's image. What business of AT&T would it be to spend advertising money in order to attend to the people in their time of economic need? AT&T is not a not for profit organization. They, like any other corporation have a primary interest in raising profit. Advertising investments are appropriately intended to boost the companies image. The share your story link is a smart marketing tactic that will make the public feel that they are a part of AT&T's efforts to help rebuild the economy. AT&T is not only playing off of the current economic situation, they are capitalizing on the public's inclination to "Join together" in times of need.

ReplyDelete2. AT&T is both, taking advantage of consumers economic disparity with this ad campaign, and tapping into the feel of the nation.
ReplyDeleteThey are using the current state of the nation to spring-board their current advertising campaign. This is no ordinary state of the nation. The economic situation has had a profound effect on the moral of the nation. In a time like this we can all be considered a vulnerable target. AT&T is tapping into the feel of the nation and using the sensitivity of the situation to gain profit through P.R.
3.The AT&T campaign is more of a smart strategy than targeted advertising. Since the campaign addresses the current state of the entire nation, it is not acute enough to be considered targeted advertising. The marketing tactic is one that many companies are using in their campaigns. This tactic is popularly used because good advertisers need to always know exactly where their audience is coming from. Than design their campaigns accordingly. Although sensitive subjects will always raise debit in this situation AT&T is doing its job.
ReplyDelete3. this is targeting advertising because their focus is relating to people who have hardships in their lives. they reinvented their image to appeal towards people and their difficulties saying they are doing their part to make the world and the economy a little more managable.
